On Saturday, the Dallas International Film Festival hosted a panel discussion with former film executive and producer, Sherry Lansing. During her almost 30 years in the motion picture business, Lansing was involved in the production, marketing and distribution of over 200 films. She shared experiences from her own journey and offered advice, telling the audience “find something that you love and do it now.”

After a 40th anniversary screening of the classic horror film THE EXORCIST this weekend, director William Friedkin, recipient of the Dallas Film Society’s 2013 “Dallas Star Award,” took part in a lively Q&A. The legendary director stood and delivered his answers with theatrical flare and added insight into his responses including his views on God and anecdotes about firing real guns on set while filming.

On Saturday afternoon, DIFF hosted a special screening of the film SMASHED, followed by a Q&A with actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead, this year’s recipient of the Dallas Film Society’s “Dallas Star Award.” Winstead described playing Kate as “a dream role” and discussed how she prepared herself to portray a sympathetic character going through the highs and lows of addiction and marriage.
